Fundraising Idea Portal

This page is for all SSCA members to look at what fundraisers have been successful for chapters in the past and to share what works with other members.   Traveling to conferences is expensive and with ever-tightening state budgets its important we support our members as much as possible.

Below is a list of ideas generated at the 2017 Mid-Winter Conference in Norfolk, VA.  If you wish to add an idea to the list please contact Lois Fegan, VA State Rep, at lois.fegan@vadoc.virginia.gov.

  • Hold a 50/50 Raffle at an event. The winner keeps half and the chapter keeps half.
  • Dunk a Warden/AW/Chief of Security
  • Sell T-Shirts at agency events
  • Fish Fry/BBQ/Boston Butt/food in general
  • Selling food at your facility and delivering it on plates to officers on post.
    • It’s hard to get line staff to participate in fundraisers due to their schedule so this is a way to keep them on post and it’s a nice treat to have food delivered by their Warden, AW, Unit Manager, etc.
    • Good way to generate interest in SSCA and recruit new members.
  • Obtain vendor license for NASCAR or other local sporting events. Sell food or koozies/shirts.
  • Volunteer at local amusement park (clean up, food sales, etc). Many pay organizations an hourly rate to make up for when the regular summer help goes back to school.
  • Golf Tournaments
    • Generates both revenue and memberships
    • Select a local charity to give a percentage of the funds too (local peace officers association, veterans group, etc) to increase PR for the event.
  • 5K/10K Run (street or trail)
    • Can be a decent money maker if you have enough people participate.
  • Raffle an item donated by a local store or vendor.
  • Cake Walk
  • Restaurant Chain fundraisers
  • Krispy Kreme fundraisers – sell boxes of doughnuts or gift cards.
